So months ago I had to hang up my cake diva apron as I loaded all of my cake baking, decorating, and airbrushing supplies onto a moving truck to be sent 1/2 way around the world! All of my stuff arrived safely...but only one problem.... Where to go to get more supplies? The supplies that I didn't send and the supplies that I would need to replenish, where would I find these things? So I started searching the internet and reading forums and asking questions, till I found the name of a store that was said to have Wilton supplies and pans. So I set out today to find this store.... And find it I did!
It was on the second floor of a very crowded store, that was full of all types of serving trays, food storage containers, silverware, knife sets, glass decorative items, huge cooking pots...etc All of those items were on the first floor and I was beginning to get a little discouraged.
Then...I saw a small spiral staircase in the corner, so up I went into the unknown. At the top of those stairs I found exactly what I was looking for! Ta Da!!!

These pictures show exactly what I was looking at today. You would think that they had everything a cake decorator might need, and they were pretty close. They were only missing a few things, but they weren't things that would hinder the creativity!!!
Now to take some orders and get back into business! Clint has already asked me to do a celebration cake for a rig that has gone 1 year without any accidents, as well as a cake for the people in the office. I also have recently met a lady that wants to learn some basic cake decorating skills, so I am going to teach her a few things to get her started.
Here are a few pictures of what the first floor looked like...

Looks like a pretty cool shop! I am glad that you were able to locate a store that sells supplies you need. There is no cake like Mrs. Vonnie's cake! I sure will miss them while you are gone. Remember the Buzz Light Year cake you did for Jack? Eat some for me!!

I definitely remember that cake...I have it on my cake facebook photo album! I will take a small bite for us both!! LOL
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow cake decorator (though not as good as you) :-) I can totally understand your excitement! :-) How do the prices compare there to those in the U.S.? Just curious. :-)
ReplyDeleteThey are a little more expensive than at home...but it kind of works out in the end because you can't really look at it as cost comparison. Here it is a buy if it is what you need type of thing. If you want to know though, something here that is priced 15 dirhams that would be like $4.08. One dollar is equal to 3.67 dirhams. I still have trouble not seeing it as dollars though because you can go to the register with like 6 items and they will tell you its 200 dirhams, so at first you feel like wow!..200! But then when you convert it to $$$, it is like you spent $50. Sooo...I am adapting to the buy if it's what you need and it's what you are looking for, because it may not be there the next time you go to the store!
DeleteSo.... did you get funny looks from ppl as you took pics? lol!
ReplyDeleteActually no...because no one was really around me when I was taking them...plus iphones are great for being incognito! LOL Turn off the sound on your phone and the flash and you can take pictures all day long, just looks like you are texting or looking at some thing on your phone..HAHAHAHA! But I don't think they would really care....
