Well, we have survived the first week of school!!! YEAH!! The boys seem to be enjoying a lot of things about their new school but they are also having to do a lot of adjusting.
Clay started high school this week. My baby is growing up so fast! It keeps slapping me in the face that I only have 4 more years with him still under our roof! I am trying not to hyperventilate just thinking about it! He is such a blessing, and so smart! He's not perfect, but who is! He is ours though and that is pretty perfect! This week was a shock to Clay. The school is a little tougher than he is used to. A test in math on the 1st day!! WHAT!?!? I figure that it was one of those "let's see where you are in skills" kind of things. He also had homework starting the first night and every night of the week.... The high school is on a block schedule here, so that is also new but he is adjusting. I think that once he gets used to all these changes he will be rocking right along! He is also trying something new... Boys Volleyball! He is trying out for volleyball so we will see how that goes too!
Joshua started Jr. High this week, and he is also learning a block schedule for his day. His schedule is going to require him to be more focused and more responsible than usual! This is not a bad thing but I think it is going to be a rude awakening for him.... He is doing ok at the moment and I hope that things continue to go smoothly. Joshua does not have PE every day so we have to keep up with the rotation of his "specials" classes, aka elective classes! He is already taking Spanish, and seems to be enjoying it! Joshua is also in band, and he has chosen the trumpet as his instrument. The school provides each band student with an instrument but you have to pay a 500AED rental fee. That is approxiamately $135. Not sure if I am ready to hear the "melodious" tunes of sqawking to find the correct notes! LOL He is trying to get the hang of writing down assignments into his school planner in a manner that I can understand the assignment! Oh how I miss my Alto teachers and their concise way of assigning work and giving instructions. What Joshua writes down from the board and what he trys to explain to me, are two different things! Work in progress....
Denver has begun the 4th grade, and things are very new to him as well. He is having a little trouble with writing assignments down in his planner, as well as taking the time and asking his teacher to clarify the assignment instructions. UGH!! Very frustrating when you can't help your kiddos with homework simply because your child doesn't understand what he himself copied from the board into his planner....LOL! Denver also rotates between 3 different "specials" classes... art, PE, and music! He seems to be enjoying all three, BUT I believe that his favorite special is one that he has each day.... ARABIC! He is learning to speak Arabic, soooo cool! He then comes home and teaches me! Never to young to teach, and never too old to learn!
I have decided that I need to find a job! So I have been scouring the internet for teaching jobs here in Abu Dhabi.... I have applied for a few different positions this past week, and now I am waiting to see if I will get an interview for any of them. In the meantime, I am placing my name on the different schools to be a sub! I am praying that God will send the right one along! If you are the praying kind, then please by all means continue to pray for us! We are safe and healthy, but that doesn't mean that we don't need prayer!
'Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.' Isaiah 41:10
